A fully qualified English teacher and private tutor, I’m currently taking on students for the new term (September 2026). I teach Key Stage Three English, GCSE English Language & Literature, and A Level English Language & Literature.
My many years of teaching experience mean that I can usually identify very quickly where a student is struggling and what is holding them back. I can then focus our lessons on the areas that will make the greatest difference, using my detailed knowledge of the exam boards’ assessment criteria to help students make significant and often rapid progress.
I believe very strongly that teaching and learning should be creative and active, rather than about the passive absorption of facts. I encourage students to question, explore and develop their own ideas, whether we are investigating a character in a novel, experimenting with a piece of creative writing or working out why a particular sentence is effective. My aim is not simply to give students answers, but to give them the confidence and skills to find answers for themselves
Many students come to me lacking confidence in English. My aim is not simply to teach them what they need to know for an examination, but to help them understand how to approach the subject with confidence. English is a subject in which curiosity and independent thought matter. I want my students to feel confident enough to take intellectual risks, develop their own interpretations and recognise that a thoughtful, well-supported idea is often more valuable than trying to guess the ‘right’ answer.
If you’re considering English tuition for your child, please do get in touch. I’m always happy to have an informal chat about your child’s needs and how I might be able to help.
